More Raleigh Chopper Memorabilia...

In the late 1960's, US cycle makers discovered a Californian trend towards high-rise cycles for adolescents and are now capitalizing on it. Responding to this, in 1969 Raleigh launched the Chopper in the USA. It was too expensive and too late for the American market but the following year it was released in the UK, where it was hugely successful. In its 10 year production about 1.5 million were sold in the UK alone. Designed by Alan Oakley in the late 60's, its unique design became a true 70's cultural icon and was one of the most coveted 'must have' possessions in the 1970's. Raleigh ceases production of the Chopper in 1980 and has since become a collector's item.

The Blackmarketeer

Here is The Blackmarketeer, this 70's icon was painstakingly restored for the opening of The Blackmarket No.2 store at Orchard Central, Singapore. A customised original MK'II' Chopper by Raleigh. Fully restored by combining brand new parts with refurbished old components. Some parts of the bike are left in it's original un-restored condition for added character and for aesthetic reasons. This is definitely one of a kind, unique custom/classic bicycle. Bigfatlucha's Abandoned Customs aims to preserve this forgotten piece of history by giving it a second lease on life with a little customisation.

The Traveling Luchador in Jakarta.

And i was in Jakarta, what can say, a crazy city, spent half of my trip on the road, caught in the mad traffic jams. The food is always good though, the Padang restaurant is always the place that i'll never fail to visit everytime i feel like having a satisfying meal. Things are definitely changing rapidly in this crazy city, really massive malls and ultra hip hipster cafes are popping up everywhere, the city is becoming a super cool destination, a massive change, I will be back for sure!

The Redbull Art of Can.

The Bigfatlucha's submission for the 2010 Redbull Art of Can Competition. It took me 5 days, 500++ cans of Redbull, a missing leg and loads of sleepless night after to make this. This particular project was a stressful one for me, a very busy time when i had to do this, many thanks to prop master Jay Hammond for letting me built this in his work shop on Aliwal Street, appreciate the love sir, and also to my other master, the dude, the man, joe, Aaron J for the invitation and a prime spot to display my creation.

The Traveling Luchador in Vietnam.

Had a wonderful time here in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Spent a week in the capital with the whole family, a great getaway. We did the usual tourist thing, visited the Cu Chi tunnels, a boat ride along the Mekong river delta, the food, Bánh mì, Phở, yummy... and I had a field day at Dan Sinh market, bought loads of communist era military memorabilia. I am a happy tourist!

The In-Fidel Restoration.

Here is the 'In-Fidel', a restoration project of an abandoned 70's chopper style bicycle that i did some time ago. A straight up restoration, paint stripping, sanding, refurbishing and spray-painting. Chose a cream coloured paint for the handle bar and fenders, and decided to go with a metallic vintage brown for the body. An endless fun riding this one.
